Metro Regional Parks and Greenspaces
(2011 Oregon Chapter ASLA Merit Award)
Vigil-Agrimis, Inc. (VAI) assisted Metro with master plan refinement, site design, trail planning, permit support, wetland delineation, and roadway improvements at this spectacular 231-acre hilltop site in Washington County, Oregon. The site includes a variety of unique and disappearing Willamette Valley habitats, as well as several creeks, springs, and wetlands that contribute to the headwaters of Lindow Creek.
VAI modified the existing master plan to refine the design of the trailhead facilities and trail network for over three miles of trail. VAI performed a wetland delineation and prepared the removal/fill permit application and corresponding wetland mitigation. We also conducted the Natural Resource Assessment and submitted for the Service Provider Letter from Clean Water Services. VAI produced construction documents, specifications and land-use permit submittals for the project.
VAI designed innovative septic tank pumping and effluent distribution system to serve the facility restrooms. Public sewer service is not available at the site.
The trailhead design includes a Nature House and restrooms, gathering plaza, demonstration gardens, innovative stormwater features, a 40-car parking lot, bus drop-off zones, a maintenance facility, native plantings, and roadway improvements. The trailhead brings visitors to a diverse network of nature trails, including an ADA accessible interpretive loop featuring overlooks and artwork. Visitors cross sensitive areas and drainage's on boardwalks and bridges. Construction of the trailhead and trail system was completed in June 2009.
