Bridge Scour Reviews, Cowlitz County Public Works

Vigil-Agrimis, Inc. (VAI) provided hydraulic bridge scour reviews and a Phase II hydraulic bridge scour report as part of an On-Call Services contract with Cowlitz County Department of Public Works.

VAI conducted scour reviews on the Ostrander Road and Meeker Drive Bridges to assist the County with the requirements of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) National Bridge Inventory System. VAI also developed recommendations for scour countermeasures, and provided extensive photo documentation of the site. VAI staff utilized methodologies developed by the FHWA to perform these analyses and prepare a memorandum documenting our findings.

In addition, VAI conducted a Phase II scour analysis of the Modrow Road Bridge. The Phase II scour analysis included researching the design of the bridge structure, reviewing historic bridge scour documentation, site investigations which included evaluating the upstream and downstream channel conditions for indicators of scour and stream instability, evaluation of hydrological and hydraulic conditions, and an estimate of theoretical scour potential.
