Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District
Vigil-Agrimis, Inc. (VAI) assisted Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District (THPRD) by developing this comprehensive management plan that provides a framework to evaluate and manage natural resource areas. THPRD manages over 1,600 acres spread over 55 square miles. Fanno Creek and Beaverton Creek are major Tualatin River tributaries with salmonids that are impacted by management actions. VAI conducted research, facilitated public and agency meetings and workshops, and developed a natural resource classification system. We made recommendations for acquisition and restoration based upon watershed findings. Plan development included extensive use of GIS, including: comparisons of 1852 Government Land Office (GLO) surveys with current land cover mapping available from the Regional Land Information System (RLIS), use of Local Wetland Inventory mapping (LWI), 303(d) water quality limited stream data, and calculation of road density within each subbasin of the Park District. Assessment of each watershed basin in terms of park quantity and quality led to the development of natural resource management guidelines supported by evaluation criteria to provide consistent decision-making tools for long-term watershed health. |
