Oregon Department of Transportation Region 2
VAI is assisting ODOT Region 2 with a variety of projects through this on call contract for landscape architecture services. Projects include roadside restoration, wetland mitigation and/or erosion control design. Services generally include site evaluations, preliminary plans, advanced plans, final plans including special provisions and bid items, and construction services.
Projects through this contract have included the following.
US 101: Region 2 Culvert Improvements, Lincoln County, Oregon
The culvert replacement project is located on US 101 just south of Lincoln City. It replaces an 18-inch CMP with a 12-foot by 6-foot box culvert to reduce localized flooding and improve fish passage to a Siletz Bay NWR property east of the highway. A range of tidal wetland habitats will be temporarily impacted by the project including coastal swamp, high marsh, low marsh and subtidal. VAI’s involvement in the project began with Advanced Plans and includes PS&E, bidding assistance and construction observation. VAI developed wetland mitigation planting plans, special provisions and cost estimates for this project.
OR34: Roche Street – Wolcott Road, Corvallis, OR
VAI was brought in to assist ODOT with this fast tracked project to produce advanced plans for planting and erosion control. This project includes roadway, trail, and intersection improvements as well as a flood bypass for a side channel of the Willamette River.
OR99: North City Limits – D Street, Hubbard, OR
This project includes ornamental planting along Highway 99E as it passes through downtown Hubbard. VAI prepared a low water/low maintenance roadside planting design for the corridor that includes a mix of evergreen and deciduous shrubs as well as ornamental grasses and perennials. VAI also prepared illustrative drawings for review and approval by Hubbard staff.
US 101: Old Condor Road – Hebo, Hebo, OR
This project includes roadway improvements as well as stream realignment and wetland mitigation. VAI is preparing planting designs for the road corridor using native grasses, shrubs and trees. VAI is collaborating with ODOT staff on the design of stream plantings and wetland mitigation grading and plantings. VAI is also preparing erosion control plans for the project. This project was tabled at the preliminary plan stage due to a lack of construction funding.
US 30: Mill Creek, Columbia County, Oregon
The project includes bridge construction and stream restoration on US 30 east of Astoria. The bridge replaces a wood box culvert and restores fish passage to the tidally influenced creek. VAI’s involvement in the project began with Advanced Plans and includes PS&E, bidding assistance and construction observation. VAI developed erosion control plans, special provisions and cost estimates for this project.
