Orchard Park
City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department
(Oregon Recreation and Park Association 2003 Design Award)

Vigil-Agrimis, Inc. (VAI) assisted the City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department with development of a master plan and construction documents for this 22-acre park along Rock Creek. We generated three design alternatives in concert with a detailed site analysis, and presented these alternatives at public meetings. The preferred alternative was approved by Metro.

Our services continued through wetland delineation and permitting and construction document preparation. Some of the design elements of the park include a segment of the Rock Creek trail, an ADA-accessible path, two pedestrian bridge crossings, an interpretive boardwalk, planting design, irrigation, parking, and site utilities. The Rock Creek Trail is a popular trail corridor in Hillsboro. Once complete, it will extend from north of US 26 to Rock Creek’s confluence with the Tualatin River, a distance of nearly 8 miles.

A main objective for the project was limit impacts to sensitive ecological areas and to integrate a sustainable strategy for stormwater management. VAI skillfully routed the trail near Rock Creek in order to limit impacts to its floodplain. Stormwater is captured on site and treated in bioswales. No pipes are utilized and no stormwater is discharged into the storm system. VAI also used grass-crete in parking areas to reduce the amount of paved surfaces and to increase site permeability.
