FEBRUARY 2012: VAI celebrates 13 years in business! JANUARY 2012: Successful restoration efforts of CREST are in the news! VAI is currently assisting CREST for this 44-acre tidal wetland restoration project within the Fort Clatsop Unit of the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park. Read the Daily Astorian article here. Adam Zucker, PE is presenting "Evaluation of Stream Restoration Designs with Respect to Floodplain Management Regulations" at the annual River Restoration Northwest symposium. Maureen Raad, RLA is leading a poster session at the symposium titled, "Restoring Channel and Spruce Willow Swamp Habitats at the Tidal-Riverine Interface on the Miami River". VAI is happy to announce the hire of Adam Lee, PE and Michael Moore, EIT. DECEMBER 2011: VAI is enjoying our work with Portland Parks and Recreation in developing the final design of a backcountry trail network in Marquam Nature Park adjacent to Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Prior to this phase of work, VAI assessed the feasibility of a proposed trail network for the park, developed during a 2007 planning and public involvement process. Congratulations to Mauria Pappagallo who recently received her Professional Engineer Registration in the State of Oregon! Mauria has professional expertise in restoration design, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, scour analysis, scour countermeasure design, and fluvial geomorphology. NOVEMBER 2011: VAI is excited to work with Polk County Public Works on the Rock Creek Erosion Control Project to address bridge scour issues on Rock Creek. We will provide bridge scour analysis, countermeasure design, bank stabilization, environmental permitting, habitat enhancement, and related tasks for this project. OCTOBER 2011: VAI has received a Merit Award for General Design from ASLA Oregon for Cooper Mountain Nature Park. VAI assisted Metro and Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District with master plan refinement, site design, trail planning, permit support, wetland delineation, and roadway improvements for this spectacular 231-acre hilltop site in Washington County. VAI is pleased to have three new team members: Roman Gutierrez, Amanda Jones, and Bhronwhyn Dean. Roman is a Landscape-Architect-In-Training with an educational background in ecological planning and design and landscape restoration. Amanda is a water resources Engineer-In-Training. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on water resources and hydrology. Bhronwhyn is a Landscape-Architect-In-Training, a LEED Accredited Professional, and an ISA Arborist. SEPTEMBER 2011: VAI is working with the Johnson Creek Watershed Council to provide aquatic habitat enhancement designs at the Tacoma Station site (Portland to Milwaukie light rail line). Designs will add channel complexity in this reach of Johnson Creek, just upstream of McLoughlin Blvd. Adam Zucker, Senior Water Resources Engineer, presented an Evaluation of Restoration Designs With Respect To Floodplain Regulations: A Holistic Perspective at the Northwest Regional Floodplain Management Association (NORFMA) Annual Conference. VAI is geared up for the annual Bicycle Commute Challenge. AUGUST 2011: VAI Geologist and Hydrologist, Linda Mark, has been nominated to the Secretary position for the Oregon Section of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists. JULY 2011: VAI is awarded Phase I of the Colewort Creek Tidal Wetland Restoration project for the Columbia River Estuary Study Taskforce (CREST) and the National Park Service. The site is located adjacent to the Lewis and Clark River, a tributary to the Columbia River at Youngs Bay. MAY 2011: VAI assists the City of Portland at the recent public input meeting for Marquam Nature Park Trails. Past intern, Daniela Sifuentes-Lopez, received a scholarship from the Hispanic Chamber for her outstanding leadership. Daniela will graduate from George Fox University in 2012 with a BS in mechanical engineering. VAI is an active supporter of the Hispanic Chamber and the scholarship program. Press release. APRIL 2011: Adam Zucker, Senior Water Resources Engineer, discussed Innovative Design Solutions for UIC Compliance at the Willamette Valley APWA event in Eugene. Vigil-Agrimis, Inc. has developed a variety of design solutions for the decommissioning and/or modification to more than 100 UIC systems in industrial areas, residential settings, roadways, and transit sites throughout the Portland Metro area. MARCH 2011: VAI is pleased to announce that the Miami River Tidal Wetlands Project designed for Tillamook Estuaries Partnership was awarded the 2010 Oregon Department of State Lands Board Wetland Restoration Award. VAI was selected by TriMet as part of the DEA team to provide hydraulic analysis and stream restoration design services for the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail project. View the project website here. VAI was selected by Clark County to provide hydraulics and environmental permitting services for replacement of Cougar Creek Bridge on Washougal River Road. FEBRUARY 2011: VAI celebrates 12 years in business! VAI continues to be a leader in the Pacific Northwest for providing responsive, high quality engineering and design solutions. VAI was selected by the Port of Portland to provide water resources engineering services on an on-call basis to various Port facilities including Portland International Airport and marine terminals. Mauria Pappagallo, EIT, presented Developing Off-Channel Aquatic and Terrestrial Habitat on the Lower Willamette River: A Case Study of the Stephens Creek Confluence Habitat Enhancement Project at the annual River Restoration Northwest symposium. After an event-filled year and a successful conference, Ken Vigil, PE steps down as president of River Restoration Northwest. Ken continues to serve RRNW as a board member. JANUARY 2011: VAI is pleased to announce that Diedra Case has joined our team as Marketing Coordinator. Diedra is a LEED Accredited Professional She has eight years of experience as a landscape architect, communications professional, and graphic design consultant. We look forward to her contributions. DECEMBER 2010: VAI was selected by TriMet as part of the Kiewit/TYLin team to provide hydraulic analysis and stormwater design services for the new Willamette River Transit Bridge. NOVEMBER 2010: VAI was selected by the City of Eugene for the Willamette River Bank Stability Study. OCTOBER 2010: VAI was selected by Clark County for Engineering, Environmental, Survey, and Public Involvement On-call Professional Services, Area 1: Civil Engineering Design and Construction, Area 6: Science and Area 7: Environmental Permitting. SEPTEMBER 2010: VAI was selected by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for Landscape Architectural Services IDIQ. JANUARY 2010: VAI completed the Environmental Assessment for Minto-Brown Island Park Floodplain Restoration in Salem for NRCS and the City of Salem. Construction of Baker Bay Trail Phase 1 was completed at Cape Disappointment Park for Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission. DECEMBER 2009: VAI was selected by the City of Troutdale for Consulting Engineering Services for Sedona Drywell Closure Project. OCTOBER 2009: VAI is happy to announce the return of senior water resources engineer Adam Zucker and senior environmental scientist John Vlastelicia. Welcome Back! Congratulations to team member Linda Mark, RG, who is now a Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) as designated by the American Institute of Professional Geologists. Linda Mark presented a poster entitled Holistic Spatial and Temporal Patterns of Post-Eruption Erosion and Deposition, South Fork Toutle River, Mount St. Helens, Washington at the October 2009 Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America (GSA) meeting in Portland, OR. SEPTEMBER 2009: VAI was selected by Washington State Department of Transportation for On-Call Environmental Services Required to Complete A&E Projects. VAI and team were selected by Chehalem Park and Recreation District for the Chehalem Heritage Trail System Master Plan. AUGUST 2009: VAI was selected by the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services for On-Call Civil Engineering Services for Service Area 3: Drainage, Water Quality, and Habitat Enhancement Projects.
